The company that operates Gallipoli House on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, in Newcastle (Hunter), has gone into voluntary administration, the Newcastle Herald reported on Friday 6 November 2026. Only the opening of the Herald’s report was readable without a subscription, and this article relies on that text and attributes it to the paper.

According to the Herald, the board of The Gallipoli Legion Club Newcastle Ltd resolved on Wednesday that it believed the company was, or would soon be, insolvent, and then appointed administrators. The Herald names them as Daniel Jon Quinn and Hugh Armenis of SV Partners.

Why it matters

Voluntary administration is a formal process in which an outside administrator takes control of a company so its future can be assessed. It describes the company’s legal status (for other New South Wales insolvency notices, see our weekly roundup of construction firms wound up). It is not a finding of wrongdoing by anyone involved, and the Herald does not suggest otherwise.

The venue is the former Gallipoli Legion Club, known locally as “The Gal”. The Herald says it reopened as Gallipoli House in April 2026 after a renovation of about $1 million.

The paper also reports that the club was said to be facing closure in April 2025, and that it sold at auction in July 2025 for $2.23 million to a group of Hamilton restaurant owners, according to selling agent George Rafty. We have not confirmed whether the company now in administration is the same entity as the buyers.

The numbers

  • Renovation: about $1 million, per the Herald.
  • Auction price, July 2025: $2.23 million, per the Herald.
  • Administrators appointed: two, per the Herald.

The Herald’s report does not give figures for amounts owed to creditors, the number of staff, or the value of any assets.

What’s next

The Herald says that on 29 October it reported that event organiser Powder Your Nose had to find a new venue three days before its HallowQueen event at Gallipoli House on 31 October. Co-founder Ella Griffiths said she contacted people she knew at the club, who “were completely in the dark as well”.

The Herald reports that it has asked the administrators for comment and that attempts to reach Gallipoli House by email and phone were unsuccessful. The report does not say what happens to existing bookings or staff entitlements.

In a voluntary administration, the administrator investigates the company’s affairs and reports to creditors, who then decide its future.
