The Queensland Government says 30 homes at Skyline View in Southport, in the City of Gold Coast, are complete, with 543 more social and affordable homes under way across the city. For builders and developers, it is a marker of publicly funded supply moving through to handover on the Gold Coast.

Why it matters

The state says Skyline View has 27 social homes and three specialist disability homes. Community Housing Limited runs them. The statement does not name a builder, a street address or a project cost, so none is given here.

The homes are aimed at older women, people with disability and seniors in social housing who want to downsize. The state says that frees larger social homes for families.

Community Housing Limited also opened 29 homes in Logan on 8 October. Read our report on Waterford West. Together they show one provider handing over projects across South East Queensland.

Housing Minister Sam O’Connor said:

“These 30 new homes mean more of our most vulnerable Gold Coasters have a safe, secure and appropriate place to call home.”

The numbers

  • 30 homes at Skyline View: 27 social homes and three specialist disability homes.
  • 543 social and affordable homes under way across the Gold Coast, per the statement.
  • 213 homes in the Southport Supportive Housing Project, which the statement says will have onsite support services. The statement lists it as other Southport work.
  • State-wide, not Gold Coast: the government cites a $5.725 billion investment over four years in social and community housing, and 11,205 homes delivered or under way toward a target of 53,500 by 2044.

The statement also makes comparisons with the previous government. Those are the government’s claims and we have not tested them.

What’s next

The 213-home Southport Supportive Housing Project is the larger pipeline. The statement gives no completion dates for the remaining homes, so builders tracking tenders should watch Queensland Government procurement notices.
