Four coast builders in restructuring or hit by licence action
Two companies are in small business restructuring, one licence is cancelled and one suspended. Check the register before you sign or pay.
Two Queensland coast home builders entered small business restructuring in the past fortnight, and two more have lost or paused their QBCC licences. If you have a contract, deposit or subcontract with any of them, check the position this week.
Why it matters
Part 5.3B restructuring is not administration or liquidation. The company stays in the control of its directors while a restructuring practitioner helps it put a plan to creditors. It can still trade, but unpaid subbies and suppliers are in the queue.
A licence action is different. Cancelled means the licence has ended. Suspended means the builder cannot contract for work while the suspension runs. The register does not say why, and we have not assumed a cause.

What’s next
Developers and owners with a build under way should confirm the licence status on the QBCC register, ask for the current insurance details in writing, and hold progress payments to contract milestones. Subcontractors should check what is owed before taking on more work.
The practitioners for the two restructuring companies will take the process to creditors. Watch ASIC Published Notices for the next step. For wider context, see our reports on QBCC suspensions, other Queensland trade insolvencies and the Queensland hub.
