The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) suspended 150 builder-class licences in the 30 days to 8 October, up from 94 in the 30 days before. That is a 60 per cent rise on our count of the regulator’s open data. For developers choosing builders and subbies extending credit, a suspension is a prompt to check, not a verdict.

Why it matters

A suspension is not a collapse. The open data gives no reason. The file is an event list, so it includes licences since reinstated. The QBCC licence search shows current status.

Among suspended Medium Rise and Open licence holders in the latest window were Benchmark Builders, Dipcon Construction, Weddell Constructions, Gibson Construction Services and Great Northern Building and Constructions. Tilt Easy Construction lost an Open licence by cancellation on 8 October. Each is a company licensee, and the data does not say why.

Subbies working for any of them should confirm the licence status before the next progress claim. Developers should check it before signing or releasing a payment.

The numbers

We counted distinct licence numbers by status date, using classes that begin with “Builder”. The latest window is 9 September to 8 October 2026. The prior window is 10 August to 8 September.

  • Builder-class suspensions: 150 licences (162 licence-class rows), against 94 (108 rows).
  • Open and Medium Rise suspensions: 64 licences, against 45.
  • Builder-class cancellations: 205 licences (220 rows), against 214 (229 rows).
  • Non-builder trade classes: 653 cancellation rows, against 686.

The suspended table held exactly 2,000 rows from 1 July to 6 October when we queried it. We could not check that round total against the source CSV, so treat the absolute counts with care. The cancelled table held 2,890 rows. A licence with several classes appears once per class.

What’s next

Watch whether suspended licences are reinstated or move to cancellation. We will repeat this count on the same method next month. See Queensland for the wider desk.
