Forma Joinery Pty Ltd, a Brisbane cabinet-making and shopfitting business, remains under external administration more than five weeks after it was placed there. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission published a notice on 21 October 2026 calling a second meeting of creditors under subsection 439A(1) of the Corporations Act for 22 October 2026, held virtually via Microsoft Teams. That is the step at which creditors decide a company’s fate. The notice records that Forma Joinery, ACN 691 848 183, entered voluntary administration on 17 September 2026, with Nikhil Khatri of insolvency firm Worrells, of Level 15, 300 Queen Street, Brisbane, acting as administrator.

The same ASIC record lists a secondary status of receiver and manager appointed. Receivers act for a secured lender, separately from the administrator, and the notice does not name the receiver or the lender.

Forma Joinery holds Queensland Building and Construction Commission trade licences in Cabinet Making and Shopfitting, placing it in the joinery and fit-out supply chain for commercial and residential builds across the region.

Why it matters

Voluntary administration is distinct from liquidation or winding up. An administrator such as Khatri acts for the company and all its creditors, assessing whether Forma Joinery can be returned to its directors, restructured under a deed of company arrangement, or wound up. None of those outcomes has yet occurred, and the notice does not say which the administrator will recommend.

The gap between the two dates on the public record matters. Forma Joinery has been under administration since 17 September, not since this week, which means the business has already been trading under Khatri’s control, or not trading, for more than a month before this notice surfaced. Forma Joinery was one of five Queensland-licensed trades firms that entered insolvency inside an 11-day stretch in September, alongside another joiner, a bricklayer, a tiler and a roofer. A second meeting under section 439A is typically where creditors vote on the administrator’s recommendation, so the 22 October date marks the decision point rather than the start of the process.

For builders, subcontractors and clients with live joinery or shopfitting packages tied to Forma Joinery’s Cabinet Making and Shopfitting licences, the practical question is what creditors resolved on 22 October, and how the receiver’s role affects any assets tied to their work. The ASIC notice does not name any project, client or creditor, and it carries no figure for debts owed. Those are gaps in the public record, not facts to estimate.

The numbers

  • Company: Forma Joinery Pty Ltd, ACN 691 848 183.
  • Status: voluntary administration.
  • Administration began: 17 September 2026.
  • Notice type: second meeting of creditors, subsection 439A(1), Corporations Act.
  • Notice published: 21 October 2026, ASIC Published Notices.
  • Second meeting: 22 October 2026, 12:30pm AEST, via Microsoft Teams.
  • Secondary status on ASIC record: receiver and manager appointed.
  • Administrator: Nikhil Khatri, Worrells, Level 15, 300 Queen Street, Brisbane.
  • QBCC licence classes: Cabinet Making, Shopfitting (Trade).

The notice does not disclose a creditor count, a claimed debt figure, or the reason the directors or a creditor sought the appointment. It also does not name any construction project Forma Joinery was working on at the time. Those details stay unreported rather than inferred.

What’s next

The notice set the second meeting for 22 October 2026, where creditors were asked to choose one of three outcomes: handing the company back to its directors, approving a deed of company arrangement that lets it keep trading under agreed terms, or placing it into liquidation. Meetings can be adjourned, and ASIC’s register had not recorded a result when this story was published.

Builders, subcontractors and trade clients with a current engagement involving Forma Joinery’s Cabinet Making or Shopfitting licences should confirm the status of that work directly rather than assume the business has stopped operating. The QBCC’s own licence record, not this notice, is the place to check whether those licences remain current.

We will update this story once ASIC’s register shows the outcome of the creditors’ vote or any change to Forma Joinery’s QBCC licence status.
